When an InDesign .INDD file is really a QuarkXPress .QXP layout…

The layout file had an Adobe InDesign CS3 icon and the proper “.indd” file extension, yet would not open in CS4 or CS3 (or, quite frankly, anything Adobe)! Why? Because, as it turned out, it was really a QuarkXPress layout and a version 5.01 file, at that! The customer thought it was a corrupt InDesign job.

No, it was not my x-ray vision that revealed the file format. Markzware’s FlightCheck Professional application displayed the file type, right on my computer screen.

And with the help of Q2ID (Quark to InDesign), I was able to get this customer’s file converted into an InDesign document, which is what he needed.
