Epson 3170 Repair

This is an old Epson Perfection 3170 PHOTO flat bed scanner. It started making a grinding noise and then beeping. Took it apart and discovered that the tensioner pulley is only held in place with 2 plastic tabs, and one had broken off. Thus the tensioner pulley was no longer holding the belt tight.

My fix was to permanently screw it in place.

This negates the ability of the tensioner spring to continuously tension the belt, but hopefully the belt has stretched as much as it is ever going to, given this thing is several years old.

If the belt tension ever becomes a problem, I can remove my screws, use a drill bit to elongate the holes into slots, and re-install again after allowing the tensioner spring to push the bracket further out.
